A Calm Welcoming Space
Many people tell me they're nervous before their first appointment. They worry they'll say the wrong thing, become emotional, or simply won't know where to start.
My aim is to offer a space that feels comfortable, relaxed and welcoming, rather than entering a clinical office. There is no pressure to have everything worked out. We simply begin wherever feels right for you.
Therapy is a conversation, but it's much more than simply talking.
It's a space where you can slow down, think out loud, understand yourself more deeply and begin making sense of experiences that may have felt confusing or overwhelming.
Sometimes we'll explore what's happening today.
Sometimes we'll gently look at experiences from earlier in life that may still be influencing how you feel or respond now.
Together we'll become curious about patterns, relationships, emotions and the ways you've learnt to cope.
There is no expectation to be "fixed". Therapy is about helping you understand yourself with greater compassion and finding ways to move forwards.
People often ask whether they'll be expected to tell me everything.
The answer is no.
The first session is about getting to know one another.
We'll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope might change and any questions you may have.
There is no pressure to go deeper than feels comfortable.
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy, so the first session is just as much about you deciding whether I feel like the right therapist for you.
You don't need notes.
You don't need the right words.
You don't even need to know exactly why you've come.
Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to talk about.
Others simply know that something doesn't feel quite right.
Both are completely okay.

Take a seat on the sofa, feel free to lie down, stretch out, My hope is that you'll quickly begin to feel at ease.
Sessions take place in a quiet, confidential room where you can speak openly without interruption.
There is always water available, tissues within easy reach and no judgement if emotions appear. Tears, laughter, silence and uncertainty are all welcome here.
I've chosen calming colours, plants, soft textures and gentle lighting because our surroundings can influence how safe and settled we feel.
There is no timetable for how quickly therapy "should" work.
Some people come for a handful of sessions around a particular issue.
Others stay longer to understand themselves more deeply.
We'll regularly review how things are going together so that therapy remains useful and focused on your needs.
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
If you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, questioning yourself, navigating loss or simply wanting a space that's entirely yours, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
